Itinerary (13 days)

Day 1 Arrival in Lima

  • Upon arrival at the airport, you will be taken to your hotel.
  • Overnight at your chosen hotel.

Day 2 Lima Tour

  • Lima city tour: In the afternoon, you will tour around Lima starting off with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean from Miraflores. Then you will visit one of the very few archaeological sites that can be found within the city, the Huallamarca site and learn more about this pre Inca culture. After taking in the views of modern Lima, you will head to the downtown area, where the Historic Center is located, a great representation of Colonial times. You will visit the Government Palace and the Main Square located right in the middle. Your tour will continue around City Hall, the Cathedral, and Santo Domingo Church.

Day 3 Lima - Cusco Tour

  • You will be taken to the airport to take your flight to Cusco.
  • Upon arrival at the airport, you will be taken to your hotel and have some time to rest.
  • Cusco city tour and nearby ruins: In the afternoon you will have the chance to visit the historical city of Cusco. Your visit will begin with the center of the city, touring around two beautiful colonial landmarks: the Cathedral and the Main Square. Then you will visit the ancient Koricancha (Temple of the Sun in Quechua), an ancient Inca worship center to the Sun God and a marvelous mixture of Inca and colonial architecture. Later on you will leave the city and head towards the outskirts where several archaeological sites from Inca times can be found, and what better example of this that the Sacsayhuaman Inca Fortress, entirely built in stone, each piece carefully carved to fit perfectly to the other. This Inca fortress is also the chosen site for the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) that is celebrated every year on June 24th. Even more archaeological marvels are ahead: Kenko (labyrinth or maze in Quechua), a ceremonial site; Puca Pucara, a site where you will find the tambos (watch towers) from Inca Time; and finish your visit with Tambomachay, where a never-ending spring can be found. This place is locally known as the Inca Baths, a site that it is believed to be an Inca tribute to Unu (water in Quechua)

Day 4 Cusco - Sacred Valley Tour

  • Sacred Valley – Ollantaytambo Fortress: In the morning you will take a day long excursion to the Sacred Valley, as you leave the city you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes that lead to the valley, until finally reaching your first stop, the Pisac market, a colorful place where handicrafts and local products can be found and where you will have the chance to see locals trade their products. After roaming around the market, you will be taken to a local restaurant and enjoy a delicious lunch. The tour comes to an end at the amazing Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, built by the Inca Pachacutec as a tambo or lodging site it is strategically built on a site that allows it to dominate and watch over the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 5 Sacred Valley Homestay

  • Misminay Community – Day 01: In the morning you will be picked up and head towards Chinchero where you will begin hiking along narrow trails while enjoying the sight of local flora fauna, plantations and villages along the way until reaching the community of Misminay. At the entrance the members of the community will await you with spearmint tea and invite you to enjoy lunch with the community. After lunch you will have the chance to see the local women weaving, as they show you the ancient techniques they use to make the bright and beautiful pieces of art they make. In the evening you will head to the community meeting room for dinner and enjoy an astronomy lesson before getting some much needed rest at one of the local homes, after an excitement filled day.

Day 6 Sacred Valley Homestay

  • Misminay Community – Day 02: After enjoying a hearty traditional breakfast you will start hiking down the fields and towards the Moray archaeological site, which is said to have been an important agricultural site in Inca times. This marvelous site with terraces shaped as concentric circles is believed to have been used as an agricultural laboratory. After exploring the site for a while you will say goodbye to the community and return to your hotel.

Day 7 Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu Tour

  • Machu Picchu – Day 01: Early in the morning you will be taken to the train station and start the journey towards the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. You will arrive at Aguas Calientes and take the bus up to the citadel where your guided tour will begin and you will be able to enjoy this New Wonder of the World and part of UNESCO`s World Heritage. After which you will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night.

Day 8 Machu Picchu - Cusco

  • Machu Picchu – Day 02: You will have the morning free to roam around the Aguas Calientes town, visit the hot springs that give it its name or if you plan ahead you can even have the chance to revisit the Machu Picchu citadel and the nearby peak, the Huayna Picchu (if you wish to include entrance fees for the second day please ask your travel specialist). In the afternoon you will take the train back to the city of Cusco where you will spend the night.
  • Upon arrival at the train station you will be taken to your hotel. Overnight at your chosen hotel.

Day 9 Cusco - Puno Tour

  • You will be taken to the station to board the bus to Puno.
  • Early in the morning you will board the Inka Express bus to Puno, on the way you will make some stops to beautiful sites that tell the story before the Incas. First you will visit the Andahuaylillas chapel, called the Sistine Chapel of America and witness the incredible contrast of its humble exterior and its lush interior decoration from barroque colonial style. Continue towards the Raqchi archaeological site carved in stone and said to be a sanctuary for the Wiracocha god. Then you will make a short stop in Sicuani to enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant and continue making your way towards Puno. After lunch you will reach the highest point of your journey at 14222 ft., La Raya, the place where the aymara and the quechua region meet and where you will be able to enjoy breathtaking Andean sites. The final stop comes at Pukara, the most important and ancient ceremonial center of this area. At the end of the day you will arrive in the city of Puno.

Day 10 Titicaca Lake Homestay

  • Titicaca Lake –Uros and Amantani Islands: You will board the boat towards Uros, these floating islands are inhabit by people known as the "Water Tribe", they have built their own "islands" by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called "totora". Their homes and boats are also made from this material. Then you will visit one of the most beautiful islands on the lake, Amantani, where the locals will be awaiting for you to share a delicious lunch. Later in the afternoon you will start a hike towards the Pachatata ceremonial center, which will allow you to enjoy the sights and learn more about the local customs. This is the place where the Amantani inhabitants leave offerings every year. In front of it you will find another ceremonial center called Pachamama, where the ritual and worship to deities take place. After this visit you will go to the family house where you will be spending the night and share a typical dinner with them.

Day 11 Titicaca Lake Homestay

  • Titicaca Lake – Taquile Islands: After enjoying breakfast you will board the boat to visit Taquile Island, upon your arrival you will hike up to have a better view of the beautiful landscape that can be seen here, then after going up a slope you will reach the town on top where you will be able to visit the handicraft center where beautiful hand weaved pieces are displayed. Then you will enjoy a delicious lunch before boarding the boat that will take you back to Puno.

Day 12 Puno - Lima

  • Sillustani: You will be taken to the airport to take your flight to Lima. On the way to Juliaca you will stop for a visit at the unusual tombs of Sillustani, which belong to pre Inca times and from outside look like old watch towers rather than tombs.

Day 13 Departure from Lima

  • You will be taken the airport to take your international flight.
