Itinerary (11 days)


Day 1 Arrival in Lima

  • Upon arrival at Jorge Chavez International Lima airport, a TRIP PERU representative will meet you and take you to your hotel in private transfer. According the time of your arrival the day is yours! There are many options to visit around the capital of Peru like the Main Square with its main attractions: the Cathedral, Archbishop of Lima and Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace). If you have a free evening it would be a great opportunity to go to the Magic Water Circuit with different types of fountains and a main colorful show. It is also a very good time to start tasting a little bit of our famous cuisine in one of the delicious restaurants around the city. Remember that Peru is considered one of the best gastronomic destinations.
  • Overnight in Lima.

Day 2 Arrival in Paracas & Nazca Lines Tour

  • The hotel includes a very nice breakfast so you can be ready for an early morning transfer to the terminal and start the journey in a very comfortable first class bus to Paracas, located 3 ½ hours south of Lima and gateway for the beautiful Ballestas Islands.
  • Upon arrival, you will be taken to your confirmed hotel in Paracas.
  • After checking in and lodging, you will be transferred to Pisco airport for about 30 minutes. From here you will have the opportunity to take an exciting flight over the world-famous Nazca Lines, World Heritage Site whose significance continues to perplex researchers over the years. Many scientists believe that the lines served an astronomical function for the Nazca civilization, although other theories abound. During your hour-long overflight, you’ll see famous “etchings” (made by removing dark stones that then reveal the lighter color soil below) such as the condor, the hummingbird, and the monkey.
  • You will be taken to your hotel in Paracas after the overflight so you can enjoy some free time and relax in front of the beautiful Paracas Bay sunset.

Day 3 Ballestas Islands Tour & Return to Lima

  • Enjoy a very nice and light breakfast before your morning boat departure to the Ballestas Islands, located within the largest coastal wildlife sanctuary in Peru: the Paracas Reserve. You will enjoy the sights of many sea birds such as pelicans, guano birds and cormorants as well as many other resident and migratory birds, but birds are not all that the sanctuary protects, the islands are also the home of many sea species. Here you’ll see and hear raucous sea lions, fur seals, Humboldt Penguins, and possibly even Green Sea Turtles and dolphins. The tour will last approximately 2 hours. You will also be able to see another enigmatic drawing in the sand that was etched on the side of a huge sand dune, known as the candlestick because of its shape.
  • After your boat excursion, you’ll return to your hotel and have some free before going to the bus station and return to Lima in a first class bus.
  • You will be arriving to Lima around the evening. After your check in at the hotel in Lima, you’ll have some free time to enjoy Lima.

Day 4 Arrival in Arequipa & City Tour

  • After breakfast, you will have a scheduled private transfer to take you from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Arequipa.
  • Upon arrival, one of our representatives will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Arequipa, often called “White City” because of its many buildings made of sillar, a white volcanic rock.
  • This afternoon, you will take a 3 hours and a half tour to the city of Arequipa, visiting the Main Square (Plaza de Armas), where the neo-classical Cathedral stands on one corner. Also, you will explore the Santa Catalina Convent and its religious cloisters built in XVI century closed to the public for almost 400 years until 1970, is still home to a few cloistered nuns. The tour continues to the Church and square of San Francisco and Yanahuara area with its famous viewer from where it is possible to have a complete view of the city and the majesty of the Misti volcano.
  • The evening in Arequipa is a great opportunity to taste the local cuisine, this city is very famous for its variety of dishes.
  • Overnight in Arequipa.

Day 5 Colca Canyon Tour & Overnight

  • Start the day with a very nice breakfast at the hotel before starting the 3 hour scenic drive towards Colca Canyon. This journey will take you through breathtaking landscapes making this one of the highlights of your trip. You will cross the Aguada Blanca and Salinas National Reserve, with the highest population of Andean flora and fauna, keep your eyes open for wild vicuñas (smaller cousins of the llama) and viscachas (small rodents that resemble rabbits). The route continues along Patapampa, the highest point of your route (15 748 ft.) where you will find the “Mirador de los andes” a strategic point to see the Chila mountain range and its great amount of volcanoes. On the way down to Chivay town, you’ll begin to see pre-Inca agricultural terraces that characterize the landscape of the canyon. Accommodation at your confirmed hotel in Chivay (11 925 feet high).
  • After lunch, visit “La Calera” hotsprings located 1.86 miles far from Chivay, renowned for the therapeutic effects of its thermal waters (entrance fee is not included). Return to hotel and free time to relax and admire the beauty of the Andean landscape. Enjoy a delicious dinner included.
  • Overnight in Colca.

Day 6 Colca Canyon Tour & Return to Arequipa

  • Early morning, you will meet your guide to start the journey through the main towns of the valley stopping at Yanque, where you will appreciate its typical dances exposed in the main square, then a short visit to its site museum that exhibits a collection of textiles. Then departure towards “El Mirador Cruz del Condor”, one of the best viewpoints to observe the deepness of the canyon (11,155 feet deep and 124 miles long) and also home to the famed condors and see their majestic flying on the thermal currents. Return to Chivay for lunch and make some last minute shopping at the local market.
  • After lunch, you will start the journey back to Arequipa. Arrival around early evening. Good time for last minute shopping around the Main Square, a nice dinner or just relax after the long day.
  • Overnight in Arequipa.

Day 7 Arrival to Cusco

  • After breakfast, you will have a scheduled private transfer to take you from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Cusco.
  • At your arrival to Velasco Astete Cusco airport, our TRIP PERU representative will meet you and take you to your hotel passing through the historic center. The adventure begins!
  • According the time of your arrival, you now have the rest of the day to make some exploring around the city. It is important for you to know that Cusco is located at 11,300 feet in elevation, we recommend during this first afternoon to take it easy so you can begin acclimatizing to the altitude. Nevertheless, this is a good chance to walk around the Main Square, with its many cafes and stores. There are also many options for casual and/or fine dining.
  • Overnight in Cusco.

Day 8 Cusco City Tour

  • Morning at leisure. This would be a very good time to explore a little bit more of Cusco’s less-visited attractions, you have for example: San Pedro Market, the beautiful neighborhood of San Blas, or one of Cusco’s fine museums, such as the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, the Casa Concha (“Machu-Picchu Museum”), or the Choco Museum, where you can make your own chocolate from scratch.
  • In the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit the historical city of Cuzco. Your visit will begin with the center of the city, touring around two beautiful colonial landmarks: The Main Square and The Cathedral to see its fabulous wood carvings and impressive altars and the lovely Church of La Compañia de Jesus (Society of Christ). Then you will visit the ancient Koricancha (Temple of the Sun in Quechua), an ancient Inca worship center to the Sun God and a marvelous mixture of Inca and colonial architecture. Later on you will leave the city and head towards the outskirts where several archaeological sites from Inca times can be found, and what better example of this that the Sacsayhuaman Inca Fortress, entirely built in stone, each piece carefully carved to fit perfectly to the other. This Inca fortress is also the chosen site for the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) that is celebrated every year on June 24th. Even more archaeological marvels are ahead: Kenko (labyrinth or maze in Quechua), a ceremonial site; Tambomachay, where a never-ending spring can be found, this place is locally known as the Inca Baths, a site that it is believed to be an Inca tribute to Unu (water in Quechua) and you will have a panoramic view of Puca Pucara.
  • In the late afternoon, you will return to your Cusco hotel. Evening at leisure where you can enjoy local cuisine, music, and the splendor of Cusco at night.
  • Overnight in Cusco.

Day 9 Sacred Valley Tour

  • Discover the best of the Sacred Valley of the Incas through this route starting on the Inca`s Balcony, in Chinchero, a beautiful place with an impressive view, where twelves families still preserve their traditional costums, showing you the ancestral way in which they process the wool, and obtain those vivid colors for their textiles. Afterwards, we will get to Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire. Very well known for its “andenes” (terraces dug into the slopes of mountains for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a highly effective fortress, also served as a temple. Then, we will follow to the town of Ollantaytambo, “the unique living Inca town”: the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.
  • In the late afternoon, you will be taken to your beautiful hotel in the Sacred Valley where you can relax and be ready for your exciting next destination.

Day 10 Machu Picchu Tour

  • After breakfast, you will be ready to visit one of the most important energy centers of the world and the highpoint of your Peruvian vacation: Machu Picchu. You will board a beautiful train to the town of Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, this hour-and-a-half to two-hour train journey is considered one of the most impressive routes in the world, watching the magnificent scenery of the Sacred Valley offering passengers dramatic views of the Andean landscape as the train descends from high altitude plains down through the cloud forest. Upon arrival, our tour representative will meet you at the train station and take you to the bus station for a 20-minute ride up to the citadel. A professional English-speaking guide will take you for a 2-hour tour to the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of 3 Windows. You`ll have some time left over to go for lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge and scout around the ancient city on your own, then return to Aguas Calientes for your train back to Cusco.
  • In the late afternoon, you will board your train back to Cusco. Reception at the train station and transfer to your hotel in the evening.
  • If you want to spend more time at Machu Picchu, this package can be adapted according your preferences, you have the option to stay one more night in Aguas Calientes. This will allow you to make a second visit to the enigmatic citadel on the following day or hike the Huayna Picchu Mountain, this hike offers spectacular views of the surrounding Andes and over the Machu Picchu citadel from above.

Day 11 Departure from Cusco

  • After breakfast at your hotel, one of our representatives will meet you at your hotel and take you to the airport for your journey home or on to your next destination.
