Itinerary (9 days)

Day 1 Arrival in Lima

  • Upon arrival at Jorge Chavez International Lima airport, a TRIP PERU representative will meet you and take you to your hotel in private transfer. According the time of your arrival the day is yours! There are many options to visit around the capital of Peru like the Main Square with its main attractions: the Cathedral, Archbishop of Lima and Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace). If you have a free evening it would be a great opportunity to go to the Magic Water Circuit with different types of fountains and a main colorful show. It is also a very good time to start tasting a little bit of our famous cuisine in one of the delicious restaurants around the city. Remember that Peru is considered one of the best gastronomic destinations.

Day 2 Arrival in Trujillo & City Tour

  • After breakfast, you will be taken to for your flight from Lima to Trujillo, the “Capital of Eternal Spring” because it has a mild weather all year-round and the country´s third largest city.
  • Upon arrival in Trujillo, our tour representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your confirmed hotel in Trujillo.
  • After check in and lodging, you will start the exploration around Trujillo. First, you will take a tour around the city of Trujillo, capital of the department of La Libertad. This city was an important Vice-regal and Republican city, as attested by its beautiful balconies, yards and other buildings of colonial times, their style and grilled windows epitomize the city´s beauty and elegance. You will visit two of the most important buildings: San Francisco church and the Cathedral. You will wrap up your visit to this beautiful city going to the Cassinelli Museum which houses wonderful pieces of art from pre Columbian times.
  • Evening free to enjoy the fabulous Northern cuisine at a very nice restaurant listening a very Peruvian Marinera.

Day 3 Full Day Tour in Trujillo & Arrival to Chiclayo

  • This morning, after a nice breakfast at the hotel, your adventures continue with a visit to many others remarkable archeological sites in Trujillo, starting with the Sun and Moon Temples, ancient religious and cultural centers from the Mochica culture, the first one operated as a political-administrative center; and the second, as a ceremonial one. Then you will visit Chan Chan, the largest mud city of Pre-Hispanic America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was constructed by the Chimu culture around 1,300 AD. The city is spread out across over 10 square miles (18 kilometers). Here you will find the amazing Tschudi Palace with its ceremonial plazas, houses, mazes, grain storage and cemetery. You will finish this tour with a visit to Huanchaco beach, in the outskirts of the city, which is famous by the “Caballitos de Totora”, traditional boats made out of a native reed called totora, that are still used by locals to fish. You will enjoy a delicious lunch during this full day tour.
  • Arrival to your hotel and prepare to be taken to the bus station to embark in a 3 hour tourist bus to Chiclayo.

Day 4 Full Day Tour in Chiclayo & Arrival to Lima

  • Enjoy a delicious breakfast and prepare for a nice day around Chiclayo, starting point for visiting several archaeological sites and museums. This day you will have the opportunity to visit some of them. First, the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum which lodges the gold, silver and copper ornaments found in the tombs of high-ranked Moche dignitaries, very important pieces from the Moche culture that ruled this area before the Incas took over and some of the treasures found in the tomb of the Lord of Sipán in 1987. After this visit you will visit the Tucume Archaeological Complex, known as the Valley of the Pyramids, this amazing place has 26 pyramids that belongs to pre Inca times. These pyramids were an important regional center for successive civilizations, and today are considered to be deeply spiritual, even fearsome places among local people. The tour will end visiting Huaca Rajada, this archaeological complex became the scenario for the discovery of the tomb of the Lord of Sipan, an elite member of the Moche culture. Here you will also visit the on-site museum and learn about on-going archeological excavations. Lunch is included in a local restaurant during the tour.
  • Early evening, return to the hotel to pick up your things to be taken to the airport to board your flight back to Lima.
  • Upon arrival, transfer to your confirmed hotel in Lima by one of our representatives. Relax tonight because the adventure is just starting.
  • Overnight in Lima.

Day 5 Arrival in Cusco

  • After breakfast, you will have a scheduled private transfer to take you from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Cusco.
  • At your arrival to Velasco Astete Cusco airport, our TRIP PERU representative will meet you and take you to your hotel passing through the historic center. The adventure begins!
  • According the time of your arrival, you now have the rest of the day to make some exploring around the city. It is important for you to know that Cusco is located at 11,300 feet in elevation, we recommend during this first afternoon to take it easy so you can begin acclimatizing to the altitude. Nevertheless, this is a good chance to walk around the Main Square, with its many cafes and stores. There are also many options for casual and/or fine dining.
  • Overnight in Cusco.

Day 6 Cusco City Tour

  • Morning at leisure. This would be a very good time to explore a little bit more of Cusco’s less-visited attractions, you have for example: San Pedro Market, the beautiful neighborhood of San Blas, or one of Cusco’s fine museums, such as the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, the Casa Concha (“Machu-Picchu Museum”), or the Choco Museum, where you can make your own chocolate from scratch.
  • In the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit the historical city of Cuzco. Your visit will begin with the center of the city, touring around two beautiful colonial landmarks: The Main Square and The Cathedral to see its fabulous wood carvings and impressive altars and the lovely Church of La Compañia de Jesus (Society of Christ). Then you will visit the ancient Koricancha (Temple of the Sun in Quechua), an ancient Inca worship center to the Sun God and a marvelous mixture of Inca and colonial architecture. Later on you will leave the city and head towards the outskirts where several archaeological sites from Inca times can be found, and what better example of this that the Sacsayhuaman Inca Fortress, entirely built in stone, each piece carefully carved to fit perfectly to the other. This Inca fortress is also the chosen site for the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) that is celebrated every year on June 24th. Even more archaeological marvels are ahead: Kenko (labyrinth or maze in Quechua), a ceremonial site; Tambomachay, where a never-ending spring can be found, this place is locally known as the Inca Baths, a site that it is believed to be an Inca tribute to Unu (water in Quechua) and you will have a panoramic view of Puca Pucara.
  • In the late afternoon, you will return to your Cusco hotel. Evening at leisure where you can enjoy local cuisine, music, and the splendor of Cusco at night.

Day 7 Sacred Valley Tour

  • Discover the best of the Sacred Valley of the Incas through this route starting on the Inca`s Balcony, in Chinchero, a beautiful place with an impressive view, where twelves families still preserve their traditional costums, showing you the ancestral way in which they process the wool, and obtain those vivid colors for their textiles. Afterwards, we will get to Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire. Very well known for its “andenes” (terraces dug into the slopes of mountains for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a highly effective fortress, also served as a temple. Then, we will follow to the town of Ollantaytambo, “the unique living Inca town”: the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.
  • In the late afternoon, you will be taken to your beautiful hotel in the Sacred Valley where you can relax and be ready for your exciting next destination.

Day 8 Machu Picchu Tour

  • After breakfast, you will be ready to visit one of the most important energy centers of the world and the highpoint of your Peruvian vacation: Machu Picchu. You will board a beautiful train to the town of Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, this hour-and-a-half to two-hour train journey is considered one of the most impressive routes in the world, watching the magnificent scenery of the Sacred Valley offering passengers dramatic views of the Andean landscape as the train descends from high altitude plains down through the cloud forest. Upon arrival, our tour representative will meet you at the train station and take you to the bus station for a 20-minute ride up to the citadel. A professional English-speaking guide will take you for a 2-hour tour to the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of 3 Windows. You`ll have some time left over to go for lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge and scout around the ancient city on your own, then return to Aguas Calientes for your train back to Cusco.
  • In the late afternoon, you will board your train back to Cusco. Reception at the train station and transfer to your hotel in the evening.
  • If you want to spend more time at Machu Picchu, this package can be adapted according your preferences, you have the option to stay one more night in Aguas Calientes. This will allow you to make a second visit to the enigmatic citadel on the following day or hike the Huayna Picchu Mountain, this hike offers spectacular views of the surrounding Andes and over the Machu Picchu citadel from above.

Day 9 Departure from Cusco
